Launched in 2000, the United Nations Global Compact is the world's largest corporate sustainability initiative. Currently, there are more than 13,000 member organisations in more than 160 countries, and it has 69 local networks. In Spain, more than 1,720 organisations have joined the Spanish Global Compact Network, making it the Local Network with the largest number of entities interested in this great project and, therefore, the most important in the world.
One of the organizations that has joined this pact is Grupo Saona, one of the first hospitality groups to declare its interest in participating. For us, being part of the Global Compact means that our company is committed to aligning our operations with ten universally accepted principles in the areas of human rights, labor standards, environment and anti-corruption, in addition to taking action in support of the United Nations objectives currently embodied in the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
At Grupo Saona we are 100% committed to the realization of our project and the achievement of the 17 Sustainable Development Goals. We are very proud to be one of the first Spanish catering groups to join the Spanish network of the United Nations Pact as a Signatory member. In addition, and as we are truly aware and concerned about sustainability, we have implemented a global recycling system throughout the company: both in restaurants and in the rest of our facilities.
